What a Magical Day! The Holiday Dinner, 450 Backpacks and 3,000 Toys!

There were more than 1,200 Holiday Dinners served by some amazing volunteers with Huge Hearts! The Holiday Dinner included baked ham, au gratin potatoes, sauteed green beans, fresh garden salad, apple crisp and assorted pies/pastries. After dinner each adult was given a backpack filled with 25+ items (socks, outerwear, toiletry items, survival items, etc.) and t-shirts/sweatshirts. We also gave out a 18' Uhaul of donated clothing and 3,000 toys!

It is Not to Late... You Still Make a HUGE Difference!

The $50,000 in 50 Days Campaign is almost over but it’s not too late to Make a Difference! Together we can make a difference for so many people that are struggling this Holiday Season. Donations are down and the number of people needing a nutritious meal daily has exploded.

I have personally witnessed through this 50 Day Campaign of Love and how many lives have been affected... from the smiles and excitement on the 1,000+ children's faces receiving toys for christmas to the non-stop "thank you's" at the holiday dinner where 1,200 meals were served.

An Amazing Day... the MEGA Volunteer Event!

The MEGA Volunteer event was nothing short of amazing! With over 200 volunteers we completed everything we set out to do...

• Wrap 800+ Children's toys 
• Pack 400 Backpacks with 12,000 items! (300 for people living on the street and 100 for seniors)
• Had a huge Clothing Drive and then sorted/folded (we filled  an 18' Uhaul truck of donated clothing!)
• Collect Toys for the Children
• Inflate 800 Soccer Balls 

Even though it was raining non-stop and at time an absolute downpour, everybody worked nonstop and did not let the rain slow them down! We had our resident DJ Ramses spinning the tunes and Chef Lorrie provided a an amazing full catered lunch. Thank you for everybody that came out! Everybody was definitely exhausted at the end of the day but felt so good!

6 Days of Non-Stop Rain... Imagine if you were Homeless Living on the Street!

How cold and wet has it been for the last 6 Days? At times an absolute downpour! Most people I know didn't even want to leave their house (me included!) Actually the high was 54 degrees and low 38 degrees. This is what the homeless have had to endur eover the last 6 days. 

Today, the line of homeless and hungry people will be super long waiting for an open seat in the dining room to eat a hot meal. Inside the dining room will be filled with so many people that are beyond thankful to get out of the rain/cold weather (even if it was only for an hour) to eat a hot meal and bowl of soup. Some people yesterday will be lucky enough to find refuge in a car, under an awning or a giving person letting them into a warm/dry space. This is what so many people that go to the Soup Kitchen have to encounter on a daily basis especially in the winter. 

The Soup Kitchen not only gives out warm clothing but helps provide people with sleeping bags, rain ponchos and umbrellas during the harsh weather bouts.

Wow!!! The Happy Hour Fundraiser was Amazing! We raised...

... $17,100!!! More than 275 people with huge hearts attended the event! DJ Mike Soltani was spinning the tunes until well past 10pm. Chateaux Ultra Lounge was so generous with the appetizer spread and making a donation in the amount of 15% of the bar sales. We had several media outlets  covering the event. There were more than 50 silent auction items including several extremely valuable sports memorabilia pieces, a night out on the Ultimate Limo Bus and a Fender guitar signed by all of the members of Linkin Park!  

Thank you so much to everybody that attended and gave so generously!

 

Sunday, December 19th... Assembling the 450 Backpacks and Wrapping the 1,000+ gifts for the Children

We will be at the Atrium Hotel on Sunday, December 19th for the event that everybody waits all year for! It is the event where we will be...

• - Assembling 450 backpacks with more than 15,000 items
• - Wrapping 1,000+ children's toys
• - Filling an 18' Uhaul truck with donated clothing and another 18' Uhaul truck    with new, unwrapped toys and much, much more!! 

Santa from the South Pole will be there with all of his elves spreading christmas cheer. This event is the highlight of the Someone Cares Holiday Campaign and is Super Fun!!! We will have a DJ, catered food, face painter, cotton candy machine and much, much more! You can bring kids to this event.

There will be an extensive assortment of complimentary appetizers, DJ Johnny Vegas will be spinning the tunes and more than 300 great people with BIG Hearts will be in attendance! We will have 50+ Silent Auction items and some Secret Surprises!

Maria... Mother of 4 was abandoned by her husband penniless!

Maria, a single mom of 4 children (2,6,7 and 9 years old) thought she had the perfect life. She was married, had the dream of a big family until everything changed when her husband left for another woman when she was pregnant with her youngest child.  She found herself with four young children and no money. Through some distant family and limited assistance she has been able to afford an apartment and utilities but not much more.

The Soup Kitchen has been a blessing for her as she does not have to worry that her children will go to bed hungry. She cooks as much as she can with the limited money she has leftover after paying rent but usually that runs out early in the month and then she needs to rely upon a hot meal at the Soup Kitchen to feed her children.

She said the kindness and love has gotten her through the rough times. Several times she has just wanted to give up but the emotional support she received from the staff helped her get through those challenging times. She talks so highly about how amazing the Soup Kitchen, food and staff… she made it very clear to me that she does not know what she would do if it was not for the Soup Kitchen!
